There are several caves in Northern Cyprus that you are free to explore. One known as the Hot Cave, north of Ağırdağ village on the southern slopes of the Kyrenia mountains, is a partially collapsed natural formation. Warm air emanates from the cave, hence the name. Do not attept to enter the cave. Another natural cave in the Kyrenia area is Güvercinlik cave near Alevkayası. Access to the cave involves some fairly difficult climbing. Proceed with caution. There are three more caves in the Famagusta area. Probably the most beautiful is İncirli cave, a hundered metre long passage which contains an amazing collection stalatites and stalagmites. The cave is open on Sundays (or by special arrangement from the village muhtar). There is a small entrance fee. Gastro cave between Kuruova and Kaleburnu villages is a man-made cave containing three rooms. Finally, the ominously named Execution Cave, near Kaleburnu. There is said to be a golden earthenware jar hidden somewhere in the cave. ( U P )
There are number of beaches along the northern coast where Loggerhead and Green turtles lay their eggs in the sand between June and October. If you wish to join a group to watch them , or actively help out in the task of helping to protect them, please contact with the Turtle Protection Society on +90 392 8152496 or 8155135. ( U P )

There are several official camping sites in the Kyrenia and Famagusta areas which offer services such as washrooms, toilets, restaurants, bars, etc. However the more intrepid visitor may wish to venture out into the wild where there are no such facilities. There are no restrictions on such activities except that lighting fires in forest areas is an offence. ( U P )

Walking tours for people
of all ages and physical disposition are organised by a number of centres in
the Kyrenia area and are generally conducted in the Kyrenia mountain range.
One particular tour party meets every Sunday between October and at the end
of May, and once a month between the summer months from June to the end of September.
During the winter the tour programme is published at the beginning of every
month explanining the route and where to meet etc. All walks, as well as being
good exercise, endeavour to show walkers interesting natural and historical
features. The tours generally start at 7:30 am and finish between 10:00 and
